CineWire and Warrington Borough Council present a screening of "Brassed Off" (1996) in the
ballroom at Warrington Town Hall, as part of their "Film Up North" season.

Voted one of the BFI's best British films of all time, Brassed Off tells the story of a coalmine in a
small northern village which is on the brink of closure, putting both jobs and the miner's brass band
in jeopardy. The film stars Warringtonian talent such as Sue Jonhston and the late great Pete
Postlethwaite as band leader Danny. Despite the village's uncertainty, he continues to enter the
band in a national competition, putting more pressure onto the group.

CineWire and Warrington Borough Council present "Film Up North", a season of 3 great British films with local and
regional connections, screened at the unique location of the Warrington Town Hall ballroom.

WBC are opening the doors to this wonderful listed building for these special events; Before the films, guests will be
given the opportunity to explore areas of the Town Hall they may never have entered before.

The films selected represent the history of the town hall; The Secret Garden represents its time as a home, Brassed Off
represents its current use as the towns political centre, and Hobson's Choice represents industrial history and merchants
such as the Patten family who originally lived in the building.
